Killer Pina Colada Recipe

Call me gay but this is the drink I kept going back to while vacationing in the Caribbean. It really is the perfect drink for any barbeque or outdoor party -- especially if it's hot outside. Damn near everyone will love it.

What you need:
Blender
Ice
Dole pineapple juice (1 large can)
Cream of coconut (1 full size can)
Rum (you can use flavored rum such as Coconut rum)
Whole pineapple (optional)

First, make your base for the pina colada:
Combine the pineapple juice and cream of coconut in a pitcher

Two general rules of thumb:
1) 1 scoop of ice per drink
2) 1 and 1/4 oz rum per drink

Here is the procedure to make two drinks at a time:
* Add 2 scoops of ice and 2 and 1/2 ounces rum to blender
* Pour Pina Colada base mixture over the ice, almost to the top of the ice (do not float the ice)
* Cap and blend contents until you see a dime-sized hole in the center (add liquid to increase the size, add ice to decrease the size)
* Stop blending
* Detach and shake
* Re-blend for a few more seconds then stop
* Shake once more and pour into tall glasses
* Add straw and pineapple wedge as garnish

One last thing. You want the drink to be thick enough for the straw to stand up in, but not so thick that it is difficult to pour. Enjoy!

  1. Mmm, I tried it yesterday, and it was awesome. I also added just a bit of cream, but i also found it too watery, because of ice.
    I used some random coconut milk from thailand (it was the only coconut-milk product they had in supermarket), and 100% pineapple juice of some other brand. I also added almost half of fresh pineapple. And i used Malibu.
    Thanks for this recipe, i will use it again :)
